It is only to be expected that an elusive magical flower like this blue poppy is a little harder to grow than then normal varieties. The secret with this plant is to grow in a cool and well shaded area.This hardy perennial will grow to a height of 90cm (3ft). Sow in winter or early spring in good free draining seed compost covering the seed with a light sprinkling of compost. Place outdoors in a coldframe or sheltered spot.

Leave for about five weeks then bring into warmth of 13-18C. At two-leaf stage transplant seedlings to 8cm pots. Keep shaded from strong sunlight. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out when well established into deep moist loam in sheltered semi-shaded position spacing the plants 46-60cm each way.

A chance discovery on Thompson & Morgan's research grounds has led to the introduction of this spectacular new true oriental poppy. Large vibrant flowers of an intense and vivid coral pink never seen before in true oriental poppies from seed and rarely matched in the entire flower kingdom. Unlike many oriental poppies available it has been bred from seed and has consistent vigour producing many flowers over a long flowering period growing to a height of 80cm (32in).

It is a long lived hardy perennial growing into large plants within 3 years. From a late Autumn sowing it will flower in its first summer coming true from seed. Germinate from February to May at 15C on the surface of a good free draining damp seed compost.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and then plant out 30cm apart.

This hardy annual will grow to a height of 45-60cm (18-24in). Sow outdoors April to May or September to October. Staggered sowings in spring will extend the flowering season.Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing scattering the seed and raking in lightly.When large enough to handle remove any seedlings which are too close to each other so that they are 15-30cm apart.They prefer a sunny open site but will grow in most sites and soils.
